Being mama is synonymous to doing whole lots of things yourself! As soon as you become a mom, if you want to get certain things done; Do It Yourself (DIY)! Thus this minimalist mama has come to the point of mixing up some really easy home-made moisturizer for dry skin.
Didn’t know much about dry skin till I arrived this part of the globe. Dry skin tends to be a common problem in most households, especially in the winter months. I thought it was a unique struggle till I heard other mommas battling the same bug. My kids suffered from skin dryness, several trips to the hospital suggested from switching milk to buying expensive lotions to tackle the problem.
Having spent tons of euros on special lotions for dry skin bought solely from pharmacies, I got weary of spending so much on lotions. Then I remembered my mom used to make some lotions for us when we were young. She will do a mixture of castor oil, and some other concoctions; have no idea what they were. By the way, my sisters and I disliked the castor oil mixture even though we had no choice at the time.
Therefore I advised myself; if my mom could do it, then it was about time to get into my lab and whip up some lotion.
I started off by studying the main components of all the lotions I bought that were recommended for dry skin. Some ingredients were recognizable, while others looked like Standard Mandarin (sorry no offense to the language haha ) I managed to recognize some common ingredients that featured in the various lotions.
I could recognize sucrose, Shea butter, coconut oil, and olive oil. After trying out quite a few mixtures, my quest landed me on this super easy home-made moisturizer (lotion). This not- greasy moisturizer is the best so far on my skin and on the kids. Did you notice I said my skin? It started off as a lotion for kids, but now mama and even daddy have become kids! Ah! I think every home should keep a BIG jar of Shea butter, in fact, I keep two jars these days.
Before you ask me why? I tell you; Shea butter contains natural minerals and fatty acids that make it an undeniable best friend to the skin. There are tens of reasons why everyone should be using Shea butter. It’ is creamy and very soothing to the skin.
