It is one of my dreams as a mom to be able to make the homemade version of everything my kids love eating. I know this may sound a little bit over ambitious but well I believe it is possible. Gradually I am ticking off tons of goodies in exchange for the homemade version. Jam, yogurt, ice cream, bread, juice, croissants and now fish sticks.
These homemade fish sticks are so good. My kids love fish sticks, especially when paired with french fries hmmm yum! These littles will eat fish sticks every day if I give them the liberty to choose. Well, I can’t blame them fish is healthy and we know it is the world’s best source of omega-3 fatty acids which are needed for brain development.
Got the idea of making fish sticks at home after reading this blog post by a friend in which she shared generously 3 ways to make fish fingers. That was the push I needed to make some fish sticks at home. Anyone can make these I mean it is simple, easy and dangerously delicious.
I must confess that this has become my family’s latest favorite. Some store bought fish sticks can be really bland for spicy addicts like myself, so making some at home gives me the chance to season them as I want.
These are some reasons why you should feed your kids with fish:
-Fish contains a high amount of omega-3 fatty acid which is needed for the development of eyes and the brain.
-Fatty fish like salmon is an excellent source of vitamin D needed for bone growth.
-Studies show that eating fish reduces the risk of asthma in children. That means children who eat fish regularly have a lower risk of developing the disease.
-Kids love to eat fish, so make sure to feed them with fish sticks.
What you will need:
-1/2 Kg of any white fish fillet (I used tilapia)
-A cup of all-purpose flour
-1 beaten egg
– Seasoning cube
-A pinch of salt
-1/2 teaspoon of white pepper
-1/2 teaspoon of thyme
-1/4 teaspoon of paprika
-1/4 teaspoon of cayenne
-1/2 teaspoon of cinnamon
-2 tablespoons of vegetable oil to fry
You will have to line up 3 bowls; the first with flour, the second with beaten eggs and the last bowl with spiced bread crumbs.
-First of all, cut fish into desired strips
-Pat dry and season with some salt, white pepper, and a pinch of seasoning cube
-Mix the rest of the dry ingredients into the breadcrumbs; thyme, white pepper, cinnamon, cayenne, salt, and paprika.
– Deep the seasoned strips into the flour, then into the beaten egg, and lastly roll them in the spiced breadcrumbs.
-Remove and place on a clean plate
-Put in the fridge to rest for 30 minutes
-Pour a tablespoon of oil in a frying pan
-Place the fish sticks on the pan let it fry on one side till it turns golden brown. Flip to the other side and let it fry till it’s equally brown
-Remove and drain on paper towels.
-Serve with some French fries and veggies!
